Let’s be honest, we have heard all the standard reasons enough times by now, right?
Scale your business, gain flexibility, get your life back…etc.
Although I do believe all these reasons are very true, I am here to offer a slightly different perspective. So here it is..
1. No extra credit points are given – Sadly, there are no trophies at the end of your business journey for putting in the most hours and no pats on the back for doing it all yourself. I believe in working hard but not necessarily working harder then you need to! The truth is our lives are meant for more important things than work and I think we often forget this fundamental truth in today’s obsessive work-driven culture.
2. Busy isn’t the same as productive – Putting in the most hours doesn’t always equal more success or more profit. Sometimes we’re so busy keeping up with the smaller, less significant tasks of our business that we don’t spend our time on the things that will truly push the needle forward on where we want to go. We often keep ourselves distracted with the more familiar tasks so that we can experience the satisfaction of checking things off our to-do list and furthering the illusion of being productive. As business owners, we have to learn to overcome this efficiency trap and learn the art of saying NO to certain tasks so we can say YES to the ones that really matter.
3. The reality check we all need – Your REAL life will not begin once business slows down a little, once you make a little more money, or once you accomplish the next goal. The truth is your REAL life is in full swing right now! You are in the thick of it as we speak. This is not a dress rehearsal and let’s be honest, it’s all going by a lot faster than we thought. So let’s take inventory of what’s truly the most important to us in the big picture of our lives and make sure our day to day reflects that answer. If it doesn’t, then let’s have the courage to take the necessary steps to work towards building a life that does!
So I’m not going to sit here and say that once you outsource your editing, all your stresses will disappear and your life will magically fall into place. Let’s get real. But what I will say is if you’re an entrepreneur, outsourcing within your business is a HUGE step in the right direction when it comes to building a life full of meaning, purpose and joy.
